An out of the ordinary meeting held by the State Education Board!

The state Board of Education will hold a special meeting Tuesday to deliberate about the federal government's notice that Indiana could lose a contract that permits schools suppleness in expenditures for more than $250 million in annual federal funding and permits the use of the state's own A-F school rating system.

The 2001 No Child Left Behind education law enforced determined liability ideals, such as necessitating all students to meet accomplished marks in math and reading by 2014.

Indiana was given an agreement to get rid of "adequate yearly progress" on state tests by implementing Common Core State Standards in 2010. Since then, state decided to replace Common Core with its own academic standards.

Without an agreement, the state could lose flexibility over how schools spend about $266 million in annual federal funding.

Some of the issues that requires to be tackled by the state education department, include: how the new K-12 academic standards adopted last month meet waiver requirements; monitoring of school turnarounds; technical assistance to schools.
